ALISON + EVAN

GRAND SUPERIOR LODGE

TWO HARBORS, MN

Alison + Evan had a perfect weekend to host their friends and family  from near and far and treated them to a weekend on the North Shore. A destination wedding without the airfare and sunburn. Brilliant. Many guests had never been this far north!

We hadn’t met A+E in person until their wedding day and our very first introduction with Evan was him walking through the parking lot wearing only flannel pants.  We instantly knew we loved this guy! (photo below!) Their relationship was so fun to capture and their wedding party kept the laughs coming one after the other.

You’re going to love their story!  Keep reading!

Tell the world about the planning of the wedding.

Evan: First and foremost Alison is amazing and the wedding planning was a success because of her. I won’t take any credit besides helping narrow down some options she gathered and presented. Okay maybe I did bring up the idea of doing it on the North Shore but it was mostly all her from there. I think things really started to fall into place once we settled on doing it at Grand Superior after visiting some locations, and picking the right vendors for other options (including photographers!) really helped too- besides her being so organized and on top of things.

Alison: In my opinion, planning the wedding actually brought out the best in our relationship. We worked great together as a team – I would analyze all of the options and Evan would make the final decisions (since I’m terrible and making decisions!). I truly believe it strengthened our relationship and made us even more excited to marry each other.

How did you guys meet and how did the proposal go down?

Evan: We met through a mutual friend. Its a long story and I’ll just leave it at that.

Regarding the proposal, I planned it to happen on our 6th anniversary of being “official” together. We went to dinner at Brasa in Minneapolis (our favorite restaurant) and she thought we were going to a brewery afterwards but I had other plans. I took her to the Guthrie Theater, where we went on our first date, and we went up to the Dowling Studio Lobby (yellow room). I asked her to marry me there. I’d also planned to have a buddy hiding up there with a camera to capture the moment without her knowing, which he did. In advance also I’d told my siblings in town that I was going to “do something big” that night and gave them the time I thought we’d be back home and had a neighbor let them in, so they were waiting in our house with champagne to toast together once we’d arrived. It worked out pretty well!

For the proposal, Evan described it perfectly. Looking back, I had a hint that something was up when I noticed that Evan cleaned our house before leaving for dinner, particularly the bathroom, without me asking. So I had a feeling that we were going to have some guests over icon smile Alison + Evan Also, I noticed that Evan was sweating profusely during dinner….he blames it on the spicy BBQ sauce, but I’m not convinced.

What was a surprise during the process?

Evan: So. Many. Little. Details. So many decisions that need to be made. Even though we tried to keep the day/event relatively simple I think that’s what surprised me the most.
Alison: How perfectly everything came together. While coordinating with each different vendor, it was hard to imagine how everything would come together. It was so exciting and fun for me to experience everything that we had spent so much time (and money!) planning.

The best part of the wedding day, whatever!

Evan: First, Alison. She is so beautiful and really shone on our wedding day, and we had an amazing time together. Besides her it was awesome to see our families and friends together in such a special place celebrating us, and we were really happy to see everyone having a good time.

Alison: Getting to spend the whole weekend with our friends and family. Our goal was to make the wedding about quality time with loved ones instead of just focusing on “the event”, and I definitely think we accomplished that!
